The layout was originally conceived as a simple two board country terminus to traverser configuration depicting a heritage railway to allow the operation a wide range of members' personally owned stock. However, it was decided to significantly expand this to a 6 board U shaped layout, terminus to through station leading to a traverser fiddle yard and at the same time change its identity. Following problems with this arrangement, the layout has been further reconconfigured to an L shaped set up and at the same time the opportunity was taken to relay some trackwork, standardise on MTB point motors throughout and to exchange computer driven control of these for two separate conventional control panels. Further development is being considered to change to a more traditional end to end configuration and to convert the terminus station to a through one adding a further fiddle yard beyond it.
